Suffice it to say that when a call comes in for a vehicle that is from the ’90s or the early 2000s, it usually becomes a break against the brain bumrners we normally receive.

ATSG frequently receive calls from rebuilders who find the reverse clutch spring retainer snap ring popped out of its groove with RE5R05A transmissions causing reverse clutch failure (figure 1). In an effort to provide a reachable battery jump point, a remote jump stud is connected to the positive battery cable. These jump studs can be in close proximity to the vehicles Transmission Control Module (TCM).

The acronym for “continuously variable transmission” is CVT. Amusingly enough; there are many other titles that use the CVT acronym. For those who have not had a good experience trying to repair a CVT might relate to “Center for Victims of Torture.” Perhaps the bad experience provoked the thought of a career change to become a “Certified Veterinary Technician.” If one isn’t so easily discouraged, “Continuing Vocational Training” may be an option. One thing is for sure, although continuously variable transmissions are the transmission of choice for hybrid vehicles, it doesn’t make it a “Current to Voltage Transmitter” or a “Constant Voltage Transformer.” OK, so I am being a bit of a “Chemical Vapor Transport” (full of hot air that is) for this article’s opening paragraph pertaining to CVT transmissions. No doubt that “clear valid training” is needed to diagnose and repair these transmissions as many shops are now beginning to want to make that choice.

Happy Pi Day

Happy Pi Day!

Being in a very technical business I thought it was only appropriate to recognize Pi day........3.14.

So, I think perhaps some math is in order to celebrate Pi day.  Ponder this:

If you have a Pizza Pie that has a radius equal to Z, and a Height equal to A, the pizza pie's volume would be:

volume = pi * z * z * a.

The great state of Indiana was going to declare Pi day an officially recognized holiday.  They were going to have it fall on March 2nd!!!!  The legeslation was eventually dropped.

Happy Pi ay everyone.

Any of you that have been with ATSG for a long time can remember back to the days when a Hurricane in the Miami area meant that ATSG would be closed for a while.  Those days are WAY over.  ATSG will be open before, during, and after most any kind of disaster you can imagine as long as the internet and national phone systems are still working.

Several years ago we moved into a new building here in Miami.  We own our space now and no one can boot us out of the office just because there is a warning.  Being an all poured concrete building, it will probably be where many of us stay during the storm as it is much stronger than our homes.  We also have a full service full time generator that will run the entire office.

Even if Maimi gets totally wiped out, our new phone system and back office tracking systems are available to ATSG people from anyplace.  Anyone can be set up for either inbound or outbound calls, or both.  As for the Miami folks, as soon as there is a roof to be under the Miami office will be back up and running.

The days of ATSG shutting down for bad weather are OVER!

Close But No Cigar!

8/7/12 2:49 PM

You may have heard the phrase “Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.” Yet at other times you may have heard “Close but no cigar.” Each of these phrases suggests entirely different outcomes. And such is the case with interchanging overdrive planetary assemblies in 5R55W/S/N series transmissions. When the OD planetary system needs to be replaced, the question that often arises on our technical hotline is: “Are the ratio differences close enough to work?” or “Are the ratio differences between these models significant enough to not work?”

More Sales Help with Terry Greenhut - Delving further into the objections callers have to bringing their cars in without first knowing a price; we understand that it’s all about their fear of the unknown.
